Purpose, Function

Absorbs evaporative gas flowing from the fuel tank to prevent release of the gas into the atmosphere.
Construction
-
The charcoal canister is installed near the fuel tank.

The charcoal canister has activated charcoal to absorb evaporative gas.
Operation
-
When the purge solenoid valve is open, evaporative gas, which is absorbed by the activated charcoal, is released by the intake manifold vacuum and the gas flows to the intake manifold.

Charcoal Canister Removal/Installation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable..
2. Remove the floor under cover..
3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

Check Valve Inspection

1. Remove the check valve..
2. Verify that there is no airflow when positive pressure is applied to port
A.
If there is airflow, replace the check valve..

2. Open the sunglasses holder.
3. Remove the screws from the front map light.
4. Move the front map light in the direction of the arrow (1) shown in the figure
and pull out the pin from the bracket.

4. Verify that the continuity between the light switch terminals is as indicated
in the table.
